Rapid Assessment Report Launch: Impact of U.S. Aid Funding Cuts on Forcibly Displaced Persons from Myanmar
In light of the U.S. Executive Order suspending aid to Myanmar, the Myanmar Response Network (MRN) conducted a rapid assessment to examine how this decision is affecting life-saving services for newly arrived refugees and migrant communities in Thailand.
Conducted in collaboration with migrant learning centers, Thai local organizations, and Myanmar civil society groups in Mae Sot, the report reveals the devastating consequences of reduced international funding on critical services, particularly in education, healthcare, and humanitarian assistance.
One of the most pressing findings: over 18,000 migrant and displaced children and youth in Tak Province are now at risk of losing access to education due to cuts to U.S.-funded programs.
This assessment provides vital evidence to inform coordinated humanitarian responses and urgent advocacy efforts to protect those most affected by Myanmar’s ongoing crisis.
